Services
Our goal at Friend of a Friend is to empower children and families to achieve lifelong successes through the development of mind, body, and spirit. Friend of a Friend develops long-lasting supportive relationships with youth and their families. The agency will build a team of qualified providers and develop a customized service plan including referral sources and community based resources.
Serving children and adults with special needs
Friend of a Friend has a continuum of care for children, adolescents and adults, ranging from psychosocial groups, supported employment, respite care programs, case management assistance, transitional living arrangements, counseling, foster care homes.Supported Home Living
This service helps individuals living in their own or their families' homes learn, retain, or improve their skills related to activities of daily living. Services include teaching:
- Personal grooming and cleanliness,
- Bed making and household chores,
- Preparing and eating food, and
- Teaching social and adaptive skills necessary to reside in their own home in the community.
Parent Coaching
Parent Coaching is designed to assist parents or caregivers in developing effective parenting skills. Parent Coaches are qualified individuals that specialize in developing, implementing and monitoring behavioral plans and/or strategies to establish positive home relationships.Mentoring
Mentors work to provide ongoing support to youth and families. Mentors are often residents of the neighborhoods in which they work. They are knowledgeable of community resources and understand the culture of the youth and families being served. Their goal is to support youth in community based activities, promote social/recreational involvement and provide positive influence.Case Management
Case Management is offered to families that need help locating and accessing community based services. Case Managers are competent individuals who will work with families to achieve social, physical and financial goals.This service includes coordinating the development of the individual’s service plan; informing the individual of the service delivery options (consumer directed services option and provider managed services option) and assisting the individual in accessing non-waiver services. If the individual chooses the consumer directed services option, a consumer directed services agency provides financial management services and may provide support consultation. In addition, case managers assist wiht eligibility, provide advocacy, assist with crisis intervention and safeguard individual rights.After School/Summer Camp
After school services are provided to youth and families in Travis and Williamson counties. Youth enrolled in the program will receive homework assistance, tutoring and social/recreational interaction and social skills acquisition. The agency also offers a Summer Camp from June-August. Youth will participate in several recreational activities as they explore the many community based attractions in Central Texas.
Respite
Respite services are designed to assist families that require additional support. Youth enrolled in services may qualify for respite services during school breaks and/or weekends. Please contact agency for more information.
Support Family ServicesThis service is available to children up to age 18 who are unable to live with their natural family as a family-based alternative to institutional placement Services include:
- Daily care,
- Developmental support,
- Supervision, and
- The provision of services as identified in the individual service plan/individual program plan.
Supervised Living
This service is for individuals who live in a group home setting. It includes
- Habilitation,
- Supervision, and
- Assistance from service provider staff, if needed; during normal sleeping hours.
Life Skills Training
Agency sponsored skills training in areas such as employment search, interviewing, money management and nutrition are offerred monthly. Please view site for monthly calendar.
Supported EmploymentThis service helps sustain paid employment for individuals who, because of their disability, require intensive, ongoing support to perform in a work setting. Supported employment must be provided at work sites in which persons without disabilities are also employed. Services include:
- Adaptations,
- Supervision, and
- Training, as related to the individual’s diagnosis.
Community Support
Agency provides individualized personal care/support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Agency can provide one-to-one care including respite, supported employment, life skills and personal care. Services provided by qualified staff in community or client home.Counseling
This service provides a licensed professional counselor (LPC) or LCDC, LFT, LMFT to perform services that include:
- Counseling individuals/group/families
- Assessment and
- Training direct service providers or family members with regard to a specific individual treatment plan.
Friend of a Friend Youth and Family Services promotes cultural awareness and diversity. The agency sponsors family oriented events to build relationship with families in the community.
